"As yesterday's Defenders of Freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in WWII, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the War on Terrorism or Peace-keeping Expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace."

Commander's Corner

Commander Mike Fagan

Commanders Corner

Comrades, Sisters, and Brothers,

Our new "Military Order of the Cootie” was properly installed on Sunday, November 5th, and will be meeting on the 1st Monday of each month. If you see some strange goings on in the area, think nothing of it. The Cooties do things a little differently but are a very important part of our hospital visitation program within the VFW. Voice of Democracy and Youth Essay entries are due by Oct. 31st. If you have a child, or know of a child, grandchild in 3rd grade through High School, they are eligible to participate, including home-school children but they need to get the entry in by Friday! If you are interested in helping to judge these essays, contact Paul Manly or Steve Corker. Public Servant awards are also available. This applies to police, fire-fighters, EMTs, 9-1-1 operators, and explosive ordinance technicians. Call Paul if you have a candidate or download the entry form from the Department website (www.vfwwa.org). Our semi-annual poppy drive is next week. If you can help, please sign up at the post. A couple of hours can go a long way. If you can’t help, you can send a donation directly to the post-mark it for Relief Fund or Poppy Drive if you want it specifically for Veterans Relief. You can also send donations for the General Fund. We need to replace the range in the kitchen. Donations are also being accepted specifically for that. Rifle and gun safe raffle will be held later this month. Tickets are $25 each - limit 100 tickets (much better auds than the State lottery). See the bartender. Please support the Auxiliary functions - Sunday Breakfast - Christmas Bazaar, etc. We’re having a very busy fall,

Mike Fagan
Post Commander

Hillyard VFW Post and Auxiliary 1474 thanks The Home Depot Foundation, Jordan, Zach, and each and every one of the many volunteers from the Spokane Home Depot stores who helped us finish our framing and drywall in the stock room and office areas of the Post on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Veterans Day. Your volunteer service greatly assists us in serving veterans and our local community! We truly appreciate it and are truly grateful!

To all American Veterans,

On behalf of everyone at DrivePath and the VFW Website Solution Program, we extend our deepest gratitude to the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of our nation. Your service, commitment, and sacrifice form the steadfast foundation upon which our freedoms are built. Each of you has given more than most could ever imagine - time, strength, and, in many cases, pieces of yourselves - to defend the liberties that define the American way of life. It is because of your courage and resolve that we live in a nation where opportunity, peace, and independence are not just ideals, but realities sustained by your unwavering dedication.

We recognize that the comfort and safety with which we live each day are made possible by your vigilance and valor. Each night, as we rest beneath the blanket of freedom you so honorably protect, we are reminded that our nationā?Ts strength lies in the selflessness of those who serve. From all of us at DrivePath and the VFW Website Solution Program, thank you for your service, your perseverance, and the example you set for generations to come. May you always know how deeply your sacrifices are valued and remembered.

Hillyard VFW Post & Auxiliary 1474 Thanks all our Nation's Veterans on this Veterans Day 2025 For Your Service!
