HONOR GUARD

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Honor Guard  provides military honors for deceased veteransThey perform these honors at funerals, memorial services, and celebrations of life. 
What they do 
  • Present a folded American flag to the family of the deceased
  • Fire three volleys from a rifle line
  • Play Taps on a bugle
  • Perform funeral services
  • Participate in community events on military holidays
  • Teach proper disposal of the U.S. flag
Who they are
The VFW Honor Guard is made up of mainly honorably discharged veterans. They are dedicated to paying tribute to veterans and upholding the principles of honor, respect, and duty. 
 
How to request
You can request the VFW Honor Guard for a funeral by contacting the VFW post in your area. 
 
What else is available
The U.S. Department of Defense also offers Military Funeral Honors for eligible veterans. To request Military Funeral Honors, you can contact your local funeral home director.
