You were not alone then, you are
not alone now. There are 20 million vets who would give their lives for
you. PLEASE, don't take yours.
After a traumatic experience, it's normal to feel frightened, sad,
anxious, and disconnected. But if the upset doesn't fade and you feel
stuck with a constant sense of danger and painful memories, you may be
suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It can seem like
you'll never get over what happened or feel normal again.
This is why we have created the "buddy-buddy" program. Veterans
like you, that have shared a similar experience or trauma in one of our
nations many conflicts, are available to talk with you openly and
privately and help you deal with issues associated with your experience.
If you are struggling, if you are in pain, if you just need to talk, please call.

Veteran Outreach is One of Hillyard VFW Post and Auxiliary's Primary Missions.
It is not only about taking care of our own members, but also about supporting all of our veterans, all of our troops and all of their families. We seek out veterans and families in need and offer our support. We perform regular wellness checks, we visit the V.A. hospital and other hospitals, we take them books and supplies. We read to them. We take them shopping. We assist them in applying for and receiving their claims benefits. We provide and connect them to resources and guide them along the path to wellness. We support all VFW and V.A. programs, both financially and through other means.
We Provide Food through our Food Pantry. We provide free meals. We partner with other service providers and businesses and to give veteran discounts. We provide job training and paid jobs. We provide emergency assistance. We provide Christmas baskets for veterans and their families. We perform "Stand Downs". We honor the living and the dead through our official ceremonies that recognize their service and their sacrifice.
We assist with discharge and re-entry into civilian society. We assist with mental health and counseling. We provide support for housing, education, rehabilitation, starting a business, crisis intervention unmet needs and much more. We listen, we ask, we relate!
For a complete list of our resources see our "Resources" pages.
