VFW Foundation VFW Post 1474 Special Projects:Mission Statement:"As a 501(c)3 charity operated by veterans and their families, all volunteers, we serve veterans, service members, and their families by securing and managing resources to promote enhanced life outcomes through programs for education, financial assistance, and support services, filling gaps in government assistance and helping recipients with challenges like financial hardship or obtaining VA benefits. We serve our community and provide food and other assistance to community members in need through our hunger relief programs, making great impact everywhere we operate."
We utilize these facilities for a wide range of "Special Projects" providing services to our communities. In 2020, during COVID, we transformed our Bingo Hall in an innovative way in order to keep operating and to answer the call to fill a desperate community need. We started providing complete meals services to our local homeless shelters. These included temporary housing sites at hotels and motels, churches, and community centers. We provided ALL the meals to the Cannon St. shelter, and Washington State's largest shelter, the TRAC facility. We also served meals to the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena and the Spokane Convention Center when they were used as temporary housing. Our Food Service Programs not only feed the homeless, they also provide job training, and jobs to veterans and their family members. At our peak, in 2023, we served over 1700 meals per day! These shelters have now been permanently closed, but the need remains:https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/the-new-report-on-homelessness-shows-a-catastrophe-for-wa/This year, 2025, we opened a Free Community Food Pantry. It is a function of the VFW's #STILLSERVING campaign and the VFW Foundation's "Uniting To Combat Hunger" campaign in partnership with Humana and Volunteers Of America. This Special Project is staffed and operated all by volunteers. We rely on their support, along with our partners and sponsors.2025 Sponsors:NO-LI BREWHOUSE www.nolibrewhouse.comSELKIRK DEVELOPMENT www.selkirkdev.comDAVID'S PIZZA www.davidspizza.comHUMANA www.humana.comFEEDING AMERICA www.feedingamerica.orgSECOND HARVEST www.2-harvest.orgURM CASH AND CARRY www.urmcashandcarry.comALBERTSONS www.local.safeway.comMAVERICK www.maverick.comVFW 1474 AUXILIARY www.vfw1474.orgLEGENDS PHOTOGRAPHY www.legendsphotography.squarespace.comFEED SPOKANE www.feedspokane.orgNORTHWEST HARVEST www.northwestharvest.orgFOUR ROOTS www.fourroots.orgGIRLS SCOUTS TROOP 2242 www.gsewni.orgPREPSENTIAL www.prepsential.comBURRIS OPTICS www.burrisoptics.comSPOKANE INDIANS BASEBALL www.milb.com/spokaneSPOKANE CHIEFS HOCKEY www.chl.ca/whl-chiefs/TANNER TEES www.tannertees.comHARBOR FREIGHT TOOLS www.harborfreight.comDUTCH BROS www.dutchbros.comSPOKANE COMEDY CLUB www.spokanecomedyclub.comEWU EAGLES ATHLETICS www.goeags.comOLD EUROPEAN www.oldeuropeanbreakfast.comMIRACLE BLADE KNIVES www.miraclebladeusa.comTWIGS BISTRO www.twigsbistro.comSEATTLE MARINERS www.seattle.mariners.mlb.comATLANTIC KNIFE www.atlanticknife.comMARKET STREET TATTOO www.marketsttattoo.comMARY ZIEGLERBETTY AND WARREN HENRYAURALITE ART COLLECTIVE www.auraliteartcollective.comPATSY MOONRECORDED MEMORIES www.recordedmemories.comMONTANA GRIZZLIES ATHLECTICS www.gogriz.comCAVALLO HORSE AND RIDER www.cavallo-inc.comPANSY BAKERMIKE AND DONNA FAGANBILL SILCOCKKIM FIEBELKORNRICHARD PHANCOJESSIE ANDERSONDENNIS FOSTERRON AND SHANE SCHOONOVERMELISSA HUGHESANNE CARLROCKSTAR WHEELERS www.rockstarwheelers.comKAREN FLYNNCATHERINE ANDERSON5.11 TACTICAL www.511tactical.comTWILIGHT PARKING www.twilightparking.comCHERYL GAGNETHE GARLAND THEATRE www.garlandtheatre.orgBLICK ART MATERIALS www.dickblick.comUFCW LOCAL 3000 www.ufcw3000.orgBNSF RAILWAY www.bnsf.comLONE WOLF HARLEY-DAVIDSON www.lonewolfh-d.comBIG BARN BREWING www.bigbarnbrewing.comCRACKER BARREL OLD COUNTRY STORE www.crackerbarrel.comCHRYSALIS ART GALLERY www.theartchrysalis.comELITE ISLAND RESORTS www.eliteislandresorts.comSPARTAN BLADES www.spartanbladeusa.comDUNHAM'S SPORTS www.dunhamssports.comJESSICA WHITEUNITE US www.uniteus.comSHARP SHOOTING www.sharpshooting.netMARY ECKARTMARTY AND YLLEEN PHANCOOur Food Services Programs supply food and supplies to the following organizations:Catholic Charities Eastern Washington www.cceasternwa.orgVolunteers of America www.voaspokane.orgUnion Gospel Mission www.uniongospelmission.orgFamily Promise www.familypromiseofspokane.orgReclaim Project Recovery www.reclaimprojectnw.orgMeals On Wheels www.mowspokane.orgCorbin Senior Center www.corbinseniorcenter.orgNortheast Community Center www.necommunitycenter.comNorthwest Christian Academy www.nwcs.orgThe Salvation Army www.spokane.salvationarmy.orgReal Life Ministries www.reallifespokane.comSpokane Women and Children's Free Restaurant www.wcfspokane.orgMount St. Michael www.stmichaels.orgTruth Ministries www.truthministriesspokane.orgRecovery Cafe www.community-minded.orgNorth County Food Pantry www.newhoperesource.orgBetter Living Center www.renewspokane.orgMead Food Bank www.Meadfoodbank.orgNew Beginnings www.new-beginnings-community-resource-center.hub.bizServe Spokane www.servespokane.orgIf you need assistance and would like to schedule an appointment with our Food Pantry, please call one of the following numbers, (509) 487-3784 (208) 704-5738 (509) 280-4675The Pantry is open for scheduled appointments every Thursday.
