 President’s Message Auxiliary and Post Members,

 

We had a fantastic Halloween party this year! Our Youth Activities Chairman, Natashia Porter, did an amazing job creating a fun-filled time for all the kids who attended. Thank you, Natashia, for your dedication and hard work in making this event such a success!

 

Poppy Drive is coming up on November 7th and 8th. If you’d like to volunteer at a store, please stop by the Post and sign up. We’ll be at:  Five Mile Rosauer’s  Safeway on Francis and Monroe  Albertson’s on Nevada  Safeway in Hillyard On Veterans Day, November 11th, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., the Auxiliary will be serving a complimentary lunch of homemade soup and sandwiches for all veterans. For non-veterans, the cost will be $7.00. We hope you’ll join us in honoring our veterans with good food and fellowship.

 

Our Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale will be held on November 22nd. Donations of baked goods or handmade crafts are greatly appreciated, as proceeds will support families in need this holiday season. During this time of year, we also donate to the VA Hospital and the Spokane Veterans Home to help bring holiday cheer to our veterans. If you’d like to contribute, please send your donation to: VFW Auxiliary #1474 2902 E. Diamond Ave. Spokane, WA 99217.

 

  Currently, we still have 49 continuous members who have not paid their dues. If possible, please consider paying before the end of the year. If finances are a concern, reach out to me—our Auxiliary may be able to assist. Annual dues are $30, or you may opt for a life membership to avoid yearly payments (details in my membership article).

 

We’ll also be serving Thanksgiving dinner at the Post this year! If you’d like to help by cooking a turkey or ham, preparing dressing, or contributing any other dish, please sign up at the Post or give us a call. And if you simply want to come and enjoy the meal with friends, we’d love to have you!

 

Our next Auxiliary meeting will be held on November 8th at 10:30 a.m. All members are warmly invited to attend.

Auxiliary 1474 News:

 

Americanism: Auxiliary President Karen Flynn walked 44.86 miles in September, 2025 for Suicide Awareness. She received $200 in donations. These donations will be sent to the Spokane VA for Suicide Awareness.

 

A Patriotic Ceremony and Dinner was held. 12 were served.

 

2 of our members worked 5 hours each at the Spokane County 6th Annual Veterans Stand Down at the Salvation Army on October 4th, 2025.

 

Our District Meeting is Saturday, October 18, 2025, 12PM at Post 5924 39716 N. Camden Extension Rd.

2025-2026 Patriot's Pen Scholarship Contest: Open to all 6th, 7th and 8th Grade students. Top prize is $5,000. Application Deadline is October 31, 2025.

 

Voice Of Democracy Scholarship Contest: Open to all 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Grade students. Top prize is $35,000. Application Deadline is October 31, 2025.

 

Young American Patriotic Art Scholarship Contest: Open to all 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Grade students. Top prize is $37,000. Application Deadline is March 31, 2026.

 

3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Scholarship Contest:  Open to all 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Grade students. Top prize is $5,500. Application Deadline is March 31, 2026

 

Continuing Education Scholarships Contest. Must be an Auxiliary member or family member age 21 and over. Prize $1,250. Application Deadline is February 15, 2026
