Veteran Outreach

Coming home doesn't mean the battle is over. With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.

Comrades, Sisters and Brothers,
 
Our new "Military Order of the Cootie" will be having it's first meeting, installation, and initiation on Sunday. October 5, 2025. If you signed up or if you are an officer or former officer and would like to sign up, you will need to be there. Contact Paul Manly (509) 979-1627 if you have not yet signed up and are interested.
 
Our youth scholarship contests ("Voice of Democracy", "Patriot's Pen", and "Youth Essay") have entries due by October 31, 2025. If you have a child or know of a child or grandchild in 3rd Grade through High School, they are eligible to participate, including home-school children. The National winner of the "Voice of Democracy" will receive a $35,000 scholarship. If you are interested in helping to judge these essays, contact Paul Manly (509) 979-1627 or Steve Corker (509) 230-3901.
 
Public Servant awards are also available. This applies to Police Officers, Firefighters, EMT's, 911 Operators and Explosive Ordinance Technicians. Call Paul Manly (509) 979-1627 if you have a candidate, or download the entry form here: VFW Public Servant Awards and turn it in to Paul.
 
The District meeting is Saturday October 18, 2025, at the ELK Post. All members in good standing can go to these meetings and are encouraged to do so. Our next Post 1474 meeting is Sunday, October 19, 2025. This will be our District Inspection. It would be nice to have a good turnout. We could also have State Officers attending since they will be at the District meeting the day before.
 
On Thursday October 16, 2025, we will have a Meet & Greet for all Post 1474 members to come in for a free lunch and meet your officers-get re-acquainted with the Post. Please support our Auxiliary functions-Sunday breakfasts-Christmas Bazaar, etc. We're going to have a busy Fall,
